Why website speed matters in India (2026)

Your customer is on a mid-range phone with patchy 4G. Every extra second costs you enquiries — here's what to do about it.

Over 85% of Indian web traffic is mobile, much of it on mid-range devices and variable networks. A site that feels instant on office fibre can take 8–12 seconds on a real customer phone — and most of those customers leave before the hero image loads.

What slowness costs you

  • Enquiries: each added second of load time cuts conversions measurably; forms on slow pages get abandoned mid-fill.
  • Google rankings: Core Web Vitals feed rankings, and slow crawls mean fewer of your pages get indexed.
  • Ad money: Google Ads penalises slow landing pages with lower Quality Scores — you pay more per click for the same position.

The 6 fixes that matter most

  • Compress and resize images (WebP, correct dimensions) — usually half the page weight.
  • Remove unused plugins, page-builder bloat and third-party scripts; keep one analytics setup, not three.
  • Enable page caching plus browser caching with sensible expiry.
  • Use a CDN and hosting close to Indian visitors.
  • Defer non-critical JavaScript; inline critical CSS.
  • Clean the database: post revisions, transients, expired sessions.

How to check honestly

Test with PageSpeed Insights on mobile (not just desktop), using a mid-tier device profile. Record Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift and Interaction to Next Paint monthly — one screenshot per month beats a one-time 'we optimised' claim. Our maintenance guide shows how speed checks fit into routine care.

When to call a developer

If image compression and cleanup don't move mobile LCP under ~2.5s, the theme or hosting is the bottleneck — that needs code-level work, not another plugin. CBWS speed engagements diagnose first and quote fixed; start at +91-9456315289.
